The Philips AirFryer uses its patented rapid air technology to fast and evenly fry food leaving it moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. Rapid Air Technology is essentially created by a heating element and a fan: the element heats up the air while the fan moves the hot air all around the food.
Depending on the model, the food will be prepared in a 1.65 pounds or 2.2 pounds cooking basket with a mesh bottom. All fat and liquid resulting from cooking will drip into a non-stick tray ensuring a low-fat and healthier meal.
The Philips AirFryer cooking basket can be used to prepare a multitude of foods, think fries, drumsticks, fish, cakes, vegetables, and more.
There are accessories available to expand or improve the cooking options of the Philips hot air fryer. The Philips HD9230 has 1 accessory included: a metal rack to double layer the food so you can cook 2 foods in 1 go.

Tefal Actifry Overview
The Tefal Actifry has a different way of cooking: Food gets cooked in a non-stick ceramic bowl while a rotating paddle “stirs”the food. There are some upsides to this method:
- The food does not stick to the bowl
- The Actifry is great for Asian stir-fry dishes like rice and noodles.
There’s also a downside to the way the Actifry cooks:
- The Actifry can not be used to bake a cake, since there’s a stirring paddle in the middle of the bowl. This is however possible in the Philips air fryer with the optional baking dish.
The Actifry is easy to use but has only 1 temperature setting of 338 F.

The Bottom Line
Both air fryers have great features and are suitable for many food preparations. Deciding which one to buy basically comes down to your own intended use:
The Philips AirFryer is suitable for a range of foods from fries to cakes, but less suitable for preparing Asian dishes. Also, the cheapest Philips models have a capacity of 1.8 pounds, whereas the Actifry has only 1 model with a capacity of 2.2 pounds.
You can expand the possibilities of the Philips AirFryer by buying optional accessories, but that would make the Philips AirFryer a lot more expensive than the Actifry.
The Tefal Actifry on the other hand can prepare most frozen foods and snacks plus Asian stir-fry dishes. If this is your favorite food then I would wholeheartedly recommend the Tefal.
